FAQ (FIELDING GLOVES)
Q: What Leather is used on the fielding gloves?
A: We use only the highest quality materials to construct these gloves; all the way down to the insets/ padding. Jax gloves are made of Steerhide, the strongest and most durable leather used on baseball gloves. Steerhide will outlast other leathers such as Kip.
Q: Where are the fielding gloves made?
A: Our gloves are made by master craftsmen in Japan, where the highest quality of gloves can be found. Jax Athletics prides ourselves on delivering the highest quality product to our customers, and the only way to achieve that goal is to source from Japan.
Q: What size glove should I use?
A: This chart can assist in selecting the best glove to fit your game, but the glove that is most comfortable to you may not be the “designated” size for your position.
Second Base & Shortstop: 11.25 - 11.50 inch
Third Base: 11.50 - 12.00 inch
Pitcher: 11.5 - 12.00 inch
Outfield: 12.25 - 12.75 inch
Q: General glove care?
A: Baseball gloves are an investment, and some common break in tricks can severely damage/ shorten the life of your glove. We suggest mallet work and to play catch with the glove to break it in, and to store it in a safe place where it will not be flattened.
What to avoid:
- Steaming your gloves causes the leather/ laces to dry out, crack, and eventually snap.
- Excessive application of glove oil can darken the leather.
- Avoid heating the leather, like placing it in the oven/ microwave.
- Hot water will also significantly reduce the lifespan of the glove.
