Jax Fielding Gloves
Baseball fielding gloves built by position
The right fielding glove starts with where you play. JAX fielding gloves are built in position-specific patterns for pitchers, infielders, outfielders and first basemen, in steerhide leather and sizes from 11.25" to 13".
Infielders usually want a smaller glove with a shallow pocket, so the ball comes out fast on a turn or a quick throw. Outfielders need more length to track down balls in the gap. First basemen need the biggest target on the field. Pitchers are moving into bigger gloves, because a larger glove helps hide the ball and their grip.
Steerhide is the reason a good glove lasts. It takes real time to break in, and that's what you want: it forms to your hand instead of going soft and floppy halfway through the season.
What size fielding glove do you need?
| Position | Glove size |
|---|---|
| Second base and shortstop | 11.25" to 11.5" |
| Third base | 11.5" to 12" |
| Pitcher | 12" to 12.75" |
| Outfield | 12.25" to 12.75" |
| First base | 13" |
These are guidelines, not rules. If a different size feels right in your hand, trust it.
Fielding glove FAQ
What leather are JAX fielding gloves made from?
Steerhide. It's heavier and more durable than kip leather, and it holds its shape over seasons of use.
How do I break in a new glove?
Play catch with it and work the pocket with a ball or mallet. Skip steaming, ovens and heavy oil, which dry out the leather and weaken the laces. Our glove break-in guide walks through it.
Should I size up so a young player can grow into a glove?
No. A glove that's too big is harder to control and slows down a young player's hands. Pick the size they can close and handle today.
Do you ship fielding gloves internationally?
Yes, to select locations including Canada, Australia, Japan, China, the UK, New Zealand and Mexico.
